As an activist I choose to fight against illiteracy in Libya among several generations. Today, illiteracy’s definition is no longer the matter of knowing how to read or write, it has become more about keeping up with this world, (as UNESCO’s new definition), an illiterate person is defined as a person who does not know how to use a computer, have a degree and speak a second language (bilingual).
If you would ask me and say how do I define a literate person, I would say being both of what I mentioned above is not enough (in my point of view), in order to be up to date, you have to be educated and intellectual, have the ability to be constructive, creative, have a greater knowledge of today’s available methods of learning and how to apply them in the most of affective of ways to upgrade and develop a better version of yours self. .
I am a Libyan female who has been privileged to grow up in an environment where education has always been a number one priority. I have gained the knowledge, the language, and the technical skills required to be defined as an up to date person, yet that had never been enough for me as I have always pursued to enlighten individuals in my surroundings, encourage them to read and be well educated, unfortunately the response was not as I expected, I had a negative response to literacy.
Due to several reasons, mainly cultural, lack of using interactivity methods of learning, lack of motivation and inspiration and the shortage of services that provides methods for affordable tuition costs.I consider myself talented in graphic design and as well as an inspirational writer. I am a currently a student at Informatics college studying computer studies, and I am looking forward to be graduating next spring, and as an after school activities I am the head of the student community and a lead editor of the universities magazine.
My best possible solution is to use my talents, experience, voice an, and ability to interact with our generation and identify there needs to bring up literate, up to date individuals, that are willing to stand today as any other individual can in other strong based countries( First World Countries), my vision is to build a community designed as a KIPP campus (Knowledge Is Power Program), this community would provide all the necessities a person needs to learn, and fit amongst societies, teach them languages ,skills, and activities that would help them grow their individuality.
I am a person who believes in change and my biggest dream is to help building a generation with hopes and dreams, a thrive for motivation, a moral character, a sense of independency with good ethics.
